I am a wife and mother to two wonderfully crazy children who I spend most of my time running around after and inspired me to work in Sleep Consulting.
Prior to becoming a Mum, I studied Early Childhood and Sociology at University and went on to become a Private Family Nanny in London for 7 years. Working with children was always something I wanted to do and having grown up in a large family, I felt ready to take the challenge.
But I have found that working with children is very different to becoming a mother, you can’t leave at the end of the day and go home to a guaranteed good night’s sleep. This was my struggle when I became a Mum and I don’t think I had ever felt so tired in my life.
Sleep became an obsession for me. Was my child getting enough? Was I getting enough? Why are they constantly waking throughout the night and how can I prevent this? And being so tired myself made it even worse and more confusing.
I had done some sleep training whilst being a Nanny, so I knew some of the methods used to help improve sleep. After only a few nights of sleep training with my first little one, the results were life changing and I felt empowered to help people who were going through the same issues I had encountered.
While on maternity leave with my second baby, I enrolled on the Sleep Nanny Academy Course and what I have learnt is fascinating. There is always a way to improve your child’s sleep, which in turn will make your life and sleep so much better.
